Tips for Backpacking in Australia

Backpacking around Australia is some that many people would love to do due to the variety of places, experiences, and activities that are on offer across this vast country.

However, this is a completely different type of trip to a more conventional holiday so it takes a little more planning, which is why we have put together these tips for backpacking in Australia which we hope will come in useful during your trip down under.

Plan your budget

If you are hoping to backpack around Australia it is likely that you would have been saving for a while, but the trick is to not get overexcited and start spending unnecessarily when you get there.

Prioritise the places you would like to see and the activities that you would really like to do so you know that you will have the money required to complete these dreams, and you can then budget the rest of your money around this.

It will be difficult to save money while you are away but try to keep some cash aside for emergencies because you don’t want anything to panic about while you are trying to enjoy your trip. If you are a student you may be eligible for discounts in some places, so always remember to ask!

Pack wisely

Most parts of Australia are hot the majority of the time, so you shouldn’t need to worry about taking your biggest winter coat. Layers are a great option as you can build them up if you need to, but you’ll probably find that most of your time is spent in shorts and t-shirts.

Outfits that can be worn from day into night are great choices as you won’t always have time to go back to your hostel to change. Try to leave your luxuries behind in case they get lost, and remember that whatever you pack you have to carry around with you!

Eat on the cheap

No matter where you are in the world, restaurants can be expensive, and Australia is no different. Try saving money by buying ingredients at the supermarket and cooking up your own Australian dishes rather than eating out all the time, and you may even find that this offers a better experience.
