Nicole’s visit to the big apple
Wow. I couldn’t summarise New York in any other way. It really is the same as in the movies. It is full of people, yellow taxi’s, wonderfully tall buildings and shopping!
I visited New York in Summer 2015 staying in a budget hotel literally just off Times Square – staying in a budget hotel is probably the best way to stay in New York because realistically you will be spending as much time as possible out of the hotel than in the hotel and as much as I love my trendy hotels, this was the best option.
On our first day, the first thing I wanted to do was see everything! We started off with Times Square and just stood there for a while taking in what was going on around us. We then walked through the city and decided to find out what tours were on offer and how we could see as much as possible in just 4 days! We decided to do a boat tour starting at the 9/11 memorial site cruising all the way around New York to Brooklyn Bridge. The view of the city was breath-taking and it made me not want to come home!
The food in New York is ...big! We went to China town via the subway which was cool – the subway isn’t as glamorous as the London Tube but it is definitely worth it for the experience. I really wanted to try out the true American-Italian Restaurants but sadly we ran out of time. I would suggest staying clear of the big chains or any restaurant near Times Square as it can be average and over-expensive BUT going to Applebys behind Times Square for breakfast was great!
In the late evening we went to Grand Central Station and this was one of the best parts of the holiday. The ceiling is full of paintings, the station is huge and it is open all night – definitely one to go on the list! Wonderfully tall buildings and shopping!
