Why Abi loves the Canary Islands...

This time last year I escaped the bitter November weather for a week of winter sun in Fuerteventura! Even though I am originally from the North of England, I must say I am not a fan of the cold and much prefer temperatures above 25°C !

So, this is why I like to venture to the Canary Islands at this time of the year, as it is basically summer all year round in the Canaries!

To help you decide which island suits your own preferences best, I have summarised the top features for the four main islands:

Gran Canaria - This Island offers more scenic diversity than the other islands! There are the amazing sand dunes of Maspalomas in the South through to the highest peak at Pico de las Nieves.

Lanzarote - The youngest of the Canary Islands and is well known for the volcanic Timanfaya National Park, which has been used as a set location for films such as Star Wars and Planet of the Apes! Lanzarote is also in close proximity to Fuerteventura, so you can easily island hop between the two via the water taxi.

Fuerteventura - My favourite Canary Island! Somewhat overshadowed by the other islands, Fuerteventura is the second largest of the islands after Tenerife. It the perfect haven for surfers, windsurfers and beach lovers thanks to its desert-like coast line.

Tenerife - The largest of the Canaries islands and also the most popular with tourists.  This Island has a little bit of everything, from three week carnivals to Whale watching to Teide National park, which is home to the eponymous volcano!

I am yet to visit the smaller Canary Islands of La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro; but they are certainly on my list!
