Why You Need to Visit Jordan
A stunning country with plenty to offer its visitors, Jordan is a country that many may overlook as a holiday destination but those who do not consider it are really missing out.
In this blog post we look at why you need to visit Jordan and the great things that you can discover while you are there.
Amazing Wadi Rum
A protected desert wilderness stretching for 278 square miles, Wadi Rum is located in southern Jordan and boasts stunning sandstone mountains and natural arches, plus prehistoric inscriptions in many of the rock faces.
Also known as ‘The Valley of the Moon’ this location offers the opportunity to witness mesmerising sunsets, and those who climb the 6000 feet tall Jabal Umm ad Dami will be rewarded with views of the Red Sea.
Amman – The capital city
A relatively modern city which was mostly created in the 20th century, Amman still offers fantastic ancient ruins in the shape of the Citadel located on top of Jabal-al-Qala’s hill which is home to the two giant pillars of the Roman Temple of Hercules that can be spotted from around the city.
You will also find Ummayad Palace here which was destroyed in an earthquake in 749AD, plus a lookout point which offers views across the downtown area that will give you a real feel for the city.
Experience Petra
Named as one of the ‘New 7 Wonders of the World’ Petra is created from tombs, temples, alters and aqueducts which have been carved into the pink sandstone cliffs to create what is also known as the ‘Rose City’, and it famously featured in the film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
One of the most famous parts of Petra is The Treasury which is a tomb that boasts amazing craftsmanship. Legend has it that an ancient Pharaoh hid his treasure here while pursuing the Israelites, which is why it was given this particular name.
These are just a few reasons behind why you should visit Jordan, but we guarantee that it will offer you sights and experiences that you cannot find elsewhere.
